Continuous Registration

GECOM is currently conducting a Continuous Registration cycle at all Registration Offices countrywide.

Any person, 14 years and older by June 30, 2025, and is a Guyanese citizen by birth, descent or naturalisation or is a citizen from a Commonwealth Country living in Guyana for one year or more is eligible for registration

Any person already registered can apply for changes or corrections to their particulars, transfer of addresses and replacement identification cards during this period.

Polls have closed across the country and Presiding Officers/Counting Assistants are conducting the count of ballots cast on this day. After the count is completed, Presiding Officers will deliver Statements of Poll to their respective Returning Officers or Supernumerary Returning Officers (in the case of Districts 3, 4 & 6). These SoPs will then be scanned and uploaded to the GECOM platform accessible by clicking the button below.

Nomination Day is on the 14th July, 2025. On this day, parties desrious of contesting must submit their respective Lists of Candidates to the Chief Election Officer at Umana Yana, Kingston, Georgetown between 10AM and 2PM.

SAFEGUARDS AIMED AT PREVENTING VOTING BY IMPERSONATION AND OTHER FORMS OF SKULDUGGERY ON ELECTION DAY, MONDAY, SEPEMBER 1, 2025

Identification of the Voter Before an elector is allowed to vote, he/she will be properly identified as the person he/she claims to be. In order to facilitate this, GECOM has placed electors’ photographs alongside their names on Folio matching the names of the electors listed on the Official List of Electors that will be at the Polling Station in the possession of Election Officials and Party Agents. When an elector goes to the Polling Station to vote, an Election Official will first examine the ID card to confirm that it belongs to the elector. The Election Official will then compare the photograph on the ID card with the photograph alongside the elector’s name on the folio to confirm that he/she is the same person. Providing the Official is satisfied that the elector is who he/she is claiming to be, he/she will then be processed for voting. On the other hand, if any discrepancy is noted, the elector will be subjected to questioning, and possibly, be arrested immediately....

15th July, 2025 GEORGETOWN – The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has noted with much concern the inaccurate publication and misrepresentation of comments by some media houses in relation to the Chief Election Officer’s (CEO’s) response to queries pertaining to the earliest time the electorate can expect the declaration of results after the 1st September, 2025 elections. While it is evident from video recordings that the CEO specifically stated that the “insofar as a declaration is concerned at the level of GECOM (at the district level), we are earmarked to have declarations done by the night of the day after elections,” there are sections of the media that reported that the declaration will be done the same night of the elections. 9th January, 2024 GEORGETOWN – The Guyana Elections Commission has taken note of the contents of two (2) letters authored by R. Williams and published in the Kaieteur News on the 7th and 8th January, 2025 respectively. In the first letter published under the caption, “Partisan Appointments Threaten Electoral Integrity at GECOM”, the writer has accused the government nominated Commissioners and the Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Claudette Singh of colluding and exhibiting partisan bias in relation to the appointments of key management staff in particular, the Chief Election Officer, the Deputy Chief Election Officer, the Assistant Chief Election Officer, Logistics Manager and the Civic and Voter Education Manager. The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has noted the contents of a letter written by Shamshun Mohamed and published in the media titled, “GECOM addressed document to a person they knew was dead.” It is appreciative and commendable that the author has capitalized on the opportunity to submit an objection during this Claims and Objections Exercise which is intended to produce an Official List of Electors (OLE). It is equally important to note that the query by the author as to “how could GECOM address a document to a non-existent person when GECOM is fully aware that the person has died, having been presented with evidential facts” is a noteworthy observation and therefore it is our responsibility to provide clarity in this regard....

Registrants are Advised to Uplift their National Identification Cards

31st October 2023, GEORGETOWN - The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is committed to producing and issuing National Identification Cards to first time registrants within the shortest possible time. However, it is not unusual for this process to be held back a bit due to the need to routinely conduct the crossmatching of the relevant fingerprints, on a monthly basis, to check for multiple registration. The primary objective of the fingerprint cross-matching exercise is to ensure that no registrant is listed in the National Register of Registrants more than once. In this regard, providing that there are no issues with an applicant's registration transaction, an Identification Card would be produced at no later than six (6) weeks from the time of the application. It is, therefore, against this backdrop that the Guyana Elections Commission is advising all persons who applied for registration to check with the Registration Office where they applied for registration to enquire about the availability of their Identification Card and to ensure that they uplift it at their earliest convenience....

WHEREAS the Elections Commission has ordered that the part of the Local Authorities (Elections) Act that provides the procedure for voting by specified disciplined forces, that is sections 74A – 74I, shall apply to the Local Government Elections appointed by the Minister to be held on 12 June 2023. AND WHEREAS section 74C(1) requires the Elections Commission to appoint such places as it thinks fit as balloting places in each local authority area, and such number of ballot attendants so that there will be one ballot attendant for each balloting place.
